Photoshop: Layer Masks

Moroccan Menu

 

This is the menu I created. I first had to get rid of the water marks using the patch tool. Put the tile on the wall of around the window, and then I googled the image of the town and placed in inside the window. Finally I imputed the text.

My city was Rome. I chose the Colosseum, City of Rome picture, and the Trevi Fountain. I put layer masks on them all and faded them together with the gradient. Finally I added the text.

This is my book cover I created. I took the pink from the boat and used it in the text. Along with the cream color and the green.

Photoshop: Working with Selections

Kumquat Cream Pie

 

 

This is the kumquat cream pie recipe I created in photo shop. I started by selecting a couple of the kumquats and leaves then duplicating the layer. I flipped the duplicate and created a shadow out of it. I painted it grey and blurred the edges. Finally I added the text and took colors for the fruit to color the border and text.

Hot Air Balloon Festival

 

I created this by making a sky gradient background. Then finding a pretty hot air balloon. I added clouds using the paint brush tool and fading it so its transparent white. Then I added the balloon. I added the text. Finally I made the balloon faded a little.

GIMP: Chapter 5: Selection

PART 1: READ Chapter 2 in the GIMP book, then:

1. Answer all questions below, briefly but completely.
2. Change the color of the answer to BLUE.
3. Copy this information and paste in a new post in your DIGITAL GRAPHICS blog.

 

1.     Why are the GIMP Selection tools important? Only working on certain parts of a picture. Not effecting parts of a picture that shouldn’t be touched.

2.     What is meant by the “marching ants”? Black and white dashed lines. Shows what is selected.

3.     Describe the following terms found in the SELECT menu: ·       All- Selects whole picture ·       None- Makes sure nothing is selected ·       Invert- Makes whatever is not selected, selected ·       Float- Similar to copy-paste, but it keeps it in the same area ·       By Color- Switches to the select by color tool ·       From Path- Converts the current path to a selection ·       Feather- Makes the edges fuzzy ·       Sharpen- Makes fuzzy selected edges sharper ·       Shrink and Grow- Makes selection larger or smaller ·       Border- Replaces selection following the border of the old selection ·       Rounded Rectangle- Rounds the edges of a rectangle ·       To Path- Converts a selection to a path

4.     Why would you want to SELECT BY COLOR? It selects items of the same color. It would be an easier selection tool. Helps with backgrounds a lot.

5.     What is a BEZIER PATH? Let’s you define anchored points

6.     What is the purpose of the INTELLIGENT SCISSORS? Tries to follow the path of an object.

7.     What is the purpose of the QUICK MASK? Painting things to not select red, makes selecting easier.

8.     What is the purpose of LAYER MASKS? Defines how much of and which parts of a layer are seen.

9.     What is the purpose of SIOX? It is another selection tool.

10.  When is using SIOX most effective? It is most effective if the colors are very different.

PART 2: GIMP PROJECTS:

1.     Go to the web site for this book: http://gimpbook.com 2.     Look through the menus on the left to see the supplemental information provided for you about the book. 3.     Click on the PHOTOS FROM THE BOOK link, and scroll down to see the images for Chapter 5. 4.     Download and save these images: Montara plant (first image), Saturn, Audubon warbler (bird with tree branches),  Mauna Kea (telescope building, image after bird images), dark pink flowers,  and dog 5.     Using the appropriate images, practice the SELECTION tools indicated on pages 164-212. IMPORTANT NOTE: For many Selection tools, you must press ENTER after using the tool in order to actually select the object. 6.     For each image, once you have completed the selection using the indicated tool, copy the selection (CTRL-C) then create a new image (CTRL-N) and paste the selection into the new image (CTRL-V).   7.     Save the new images you created from each selection. NOTE: For the Layer Mask image, save the combined image of the ostrich-giraffe. 8.     Insert all the new images here:
