GIMP: Tribal Tattoo

Tribal Dragon Tattoo

The steps I took to create this tribal dragon tattoo on the woman's arm are first clone the skin near the bra strap and cover the strap. Second, clone the blue near the website name and cover that. Then I found dragon tattoo and pasted it on the arm, re sized it and faded it. Then I took the color out and made it all black using the threshold tool.

Shoulder Tattoo

For this tattoo I did the same with the strap and website as the tribal tattoo. Then I found a shoulder tattoo and pasted it on the shoulder. I faded it and re sized it. Lastly I moved it perfectly on the shoulder.

Digital Graphics: Clownfish & Tiger

 Clown Fish

I created this photo by picking a simple picture of a clown fish. I desaturated the photo then erased the gray scale on the fish to make it pop. Then I applied a feather effect and putting a orange background around it from a orange in the tail of the fish. I then chose a white simple font to stand out on the orange.

Bengal Tiger

I created this Bengal Tiger photo by search the Internet for a majestic looking tiger and desaturated the photo. Then erasing the face to draw attention to it. T then put a white feather around the face and a black background. T chose orange fancy font and used the burn tool to make the orange look faded in areas.

GIMP: Exercise: Invitation to Winter Ball & Spring Jubilee

 Winter Ball Invitation

I selected a Beautiful winter scene from google. I then cut out a spot for the writing to go in and faded the area. I put in the information and changed the font to the Simple sleek font.

Spring Jubilee

I looked up a spring like background and made sure their was grass and flower in it. Then I removed the center for the text. Then I imputed the information and faded the back so you can see the words. I chose this font because it was fun and spring-like and I matched the font color with a blue from the butterfly.

GIMP Exercise: Web Banners

Web Banners

Enchanted Wedding Cakes, Inc.
I created this Wedding Cake banner by using a gradient background of the color of a curtain in the picture of the cake i used. I used a font that was elegant and a beautiful cake with great detail on it.

Old Railroad Cafe
I created this Old Railroad Cafe banner by using a gradient background of a brown to make it look country. Then I got a old picture of a old train and pasted it onto the background. The font I used looks old and rustic.

Kelsey's Froyo
I created Kelsey's Froyo banner by using a gradient background again and made the color vibrant and appealing. I then chose a font thats stylish and a picture of Frozen yogurt with lots of fruit.

MS Publisher

MS Publisher: National Association

This is a business card I created for the National Association of Veterinary Assistants. I used Microsoft Publisher to creat this. I went in and selected a Business Card templete that I liked along with a color scheme I liked. I inputed all the information and a photo fo the cat and dog shadow then I was done!

This is the Calander I created for the Association. Its full of the events going on in the month of Februrary. I chose this templete like I did the business card I also chose it because it was simple and not jumbled together.

This is the Valentine Dinner Dance Flyer I made for the Association. I was a templete in Publisher and I kept the same color scheme. I changed the circle for the address on the top to a square to mix things up. I found this templete to be the most abstracted.

This is the gift certificate i created in Publisher for the Valentine Dinner Dance. Its for 25$ off. I selected a templete to match the calander and used mine kept everything else default.

  1. Answer all questions below, briefly but completely.
  2. Change the color of the answer to BLUE.
  3. Copy this information and paste in a new post in your DIGITAL GRAPHICS blog.

1.     What is a layer? Combining one or more separate images laid on top of each other

2.     Why is transparency important when using layers? So you can see the next layer down the image
3.     Why would you use layers when creating images? They help with editing an image, by doing this and having it helps to delete things without deleting the whole image

LAYERS DIALOG BOX: The following refers to information on pages 95-102 in the book. Open GIMP and look at the LAYERS DIALOG BOX while you read these pages.
NOTE: If the LAYERS box is not open, open it by WINDOWSàRECENTLY CLOSED DOCKSàLAYERS, CHANELS, PATHS. The LAYERS box is the tab with what looks like several sheets of white paper (see Figure 3-31 on page 96).

Describe the purpose of each of the following LAYERS properties in the LAYERS dialog box.
1.     Opacity-  transparency controls
2.     Keep Transparent- indicates transparency
3.     Visibility Eye- when on the layer is visible, when off the layer is invisible
4.     Chain Link- it links the layers together
5.     Layer Mask- controls what part of the layer is visible
6.     Raise and Lower Buttons- move the current layer up or down in the layer stack
7.     Duplicate- creates a new layer that is an exact copy of the active layer or any layer that you drag the button onto
8.     Delete- deletes the active layer
Describe the purpose of each of the following LAYERS context menu (menu appears when you right-click on a layer)
1.     Layer Boundary Size- lets you change the layer size
2.     Layer to Image Size- it makes the layer as large as the whole image
3.     Add Alpha Channel (be sure to describe what ALPHA means)- makes the layer capable of transparency
4.     Alpha to Selection- selects everything in the current layer that is not transparent
5.     Merge or Flatten- two ways of combining multiple layers into one

GIMP: Chapter 4: Drawing

PART 1: READ Chapter 4 through page 139  in the GIMP book, then:

  1. Answer all questions below, briefly but completely.
  2. Change the color of the answer to BLUE.
  3. Copy this information and paste in a new post in your DIGITAL GRAPHICS blog.

1.     In the NEW IMAGE dialog box, how can you begin with a TRANSPARENT image rather than an image filled with the background color? The background can be made transparent by going to advanced and pick the drop down menu by “fill with” and click transparency.

2.     What is the COMMENT box in the NEW IMAGE dialog box for? Can be used for name and copyright information,  also be used for more information about the picture

3.     When you draw new objects in GIMP, why is it advisable to create them on a new layer? Makes it easier to make more changes to the picture after the fact.

4.     Briefly describe these properties found in the NEW LAYER box:
·       Layer Name: To determine what the layer is
·       Width and Height: They let you customize the dimension of the image
·       Layer  Fill Type: Lets you customize the background of a specific layer
5.     Briefly describe the purpose of the following drawing tool options:
·       Mode- offers the same list of modes as the layers dialog
·       Opacity- makes the tool’s line more transparent it’s a percentage from 0 to 100
·       Scale- lets you make the brush bigger or smaller- very useful!
·       Fade out- makes the line fade out after a specified distance even if you keep dragging
·       Jitter- adds some randomness to the line. Sometimes that can make a drawing look more natural
·       Incremental- only makes a difference e if Opacity is less than 100% using a tool with no spacing, or drawing on top of the previous line, will make the line darker without incremental mode, the line won’t get darker.
·       Use color from gradient- instead of the current foreground color. It even works with color brushes like the Vine brush.
6.     What is a graphics tablet and what is used for? Can tablets be used with GIMP? They are things that can be used with GIMP such as a mouse, a tablet, or a pad.

Drawing Tools:  Briefly describe what each of these drawing tools is used for:
1.     Pencil- lets you draw sharp edged lines
2.     Brush- can make many different brush styles
3.     Airbrush- uses a large, hard- edged brush and a slanted calligraphic brush
4.     Ink Pen- shows how changing pressure can vary the line thickness
5.     Eraser- erases what it is on top of or in the current layer if he layer doesn’t support transparency. If it doesn’t then it paints the current background color over it.
6.     Rectangle Select- draws a rectangle
7.     Lasso- free range select tool
8.     Bucket Fill- has lots of options with opacity and mode shared with line drawing tools
9.     Blend- another way to fill areas
